Recycling and Growing your net worth!

It’s been a while since I updated the blog!  My goals have stayed on course, and the financial awareness recycling has given me has grown our net worth substantially.  Saving your aluminum cans and taking them in for recycling money pays better than 90% of banks' savings account interest rates.  Look for banks with High Yield Interest Savings accounts if you are going to keep cash on hand. Here are a few with great rates:

Discover Bank

American Express

At the time of writing, both banks are advertising 3.00% APY!

Third Sunday of can cleanup.  We ventured over to Burnt Road today.  Our expectations were set higher for ourselves than the week before, no hangovers to slow us down!  Our learning curve is increasing, today we packed a lunch, drinks, working gloves, and six grocery bags for collecting.  It was a fantastic day for a walk.  The weather was cloudy, but the temperature was perfect.

Along with back-road beers goes back-road sign shooting right?
What can I tell you about Burnt Road?  Well the beer of choice is one of three, Budweiser Heavy, Miller Lite 24oz cans, or Steel Reserve.  There were a few other random cans in the mix of what we picked up today, but we feel the winner was 24oz cans of Miller Lite.  So, does one individual drink all of these over a period of time and throw them out, or did a group purchase a grocery cart full and then finish them all within the two mile stretch?  Hmm. . .

The other purpose besides cleaning up was for Zach, myself, and the dogs to go for a nice long walk every week.  These pictures show just how much Sawyer would agree a long walk is GREAT!

So the outcome of today was, 15.5 pounds of cans collected!
Another 2 miles of back-roads cleaned up!
TOTAL CANS = 32.5 pounds

Today we cleaned Swamp Road.  OK, so we had a birthday party the day before and really only cleaned a half mile of the just over a four mile road.  We were not disappointed with our cleanup though.  Walking together one half mile up and one half mile back to the truck we collected 7 lb!
Swamp road has some awesome mountain views.  The road was fairly busy with cars, which was interesting because per the cans collected, this is also a well used road to shoot cans with your shotgun.  The brown yearlings below were very friendly, and we think they enjoyed the walk we took them on.  They followed us up and down the road within their pasture.
Our current collection stands at 18 pounds in two days walks.

October Sunday Walk and Day 1

We collected 11 pounds of cans on Bollinger Road today.  Recycling aluminum saves 95% of the energy needed to make new aluminum (including bauxite ore and electricity). With local backing, we recycle tens of millions of pounds of aluminum per year.  This is an exciting hobby for us, exercise for humans and dogs, and keeping Montana beautiful!  Two miles of backcountry roads cleaned of aluminum and thousands of miles ahead.
